Ways of Protecting Your Cell Phone

Like most people, you probably take your cell phone with you wherever you go. It’s your lifeline in many ways, connecting you to your family, friends, and co-workers, allowing you to quickly access your email while away from your computer, and giving you internet access no matter where you are. While these devices have changed how we live our lives, what hasn’t changed is how fragile today’s cell phones are. Dropping the phone can shatter the screen, leaving you unable to use it. Fortunately, there are a number of different accessories you can purchase to help protect your phone.

Get a Phone Case

One of the easiest solutions to protecting your phone is to get a cell phone case. These cases come in a number of different options. Some are made out of plastic or rubber and fit snugly around your phone. When the phone falls, these cases absorb much of the impact so that the delicate components inside the device aren’t knocked out of alignment or damaged. These cases often have a rim around the front, too, so the phone’s screen doesn’t come into contact with the ground unless the surface is uneven.

A different type of phone case has a protective cover that flips over the front of the phone, providing some protection for the screen as well as the rest of the phone. Some of these cases even provide space for credit cards and cash.

Use a Screen Protector

A screen protector is a clear cover that goes over the screen on your phone. Some of these protectors have an adhesive on one side and stick to the screen. They protect it from scratches and smudges, but if the phone falls face-down, there’s still a chance it could shatter the screen. You can still use your phone without removing these screens, though, which is why many people like using them.

Another option is the much stronger tempered glass screen protector. These protectors are made from more durable tempered glass and do provide protection from falls. These glass protectors are available for a number of different models and can easily be installed.

Be Careful Where You Keep Your Phone

If the shirt you’re wearing has a pocket on it, you may be tempted to slip your phone in there. It will make it easier to hear when your phone rings, but if you lean over, it’s quite likely that your phone will fall out. If you’re leaning over a sink or anything else filled with water, your phone can end up getting water-logged.

Your back pants pocket is another likely place to put your phone, but you have to be careful that you don’t sit down. If your phone isn’t in a sturdy case, you could actually snap it in half. Your front pants pocket is a safer option, although it may be uncomfortable to sit if your phone is one of the larger models. It’s better to simply put your phone in your backpack, purse, or other bag when you’re not using it or to purchase a lanyard phone case and wear it around your neck.
