Bath salt is an inexpensive way to give your bath a unique flavor. Many of use bath salt as a convenient way to add a soothing soak in the bath, but bath salt is said to offer a variety of health benefits for those with: dry itchy and flaky skin. Dry skin and flaky skin can be caused by exposure to the sun, wind and cold, or excess bathing with harsh soaps and shampoos.

Other benefits of soaking in the bath include improving blood circulation and easing pain of the muscles and joints. Dead sea salts have also proven to be helpful in reducing swelling and inflammation. Sea salt is known as one of nature’s “natural healers”. Unfortunately, many people have turned away from using the benefits of these types of bath salts due to its reputation as containing large amounts of sodium. But sodium is actually necessary in your body.

Most bath salt blends contain coarse sea salt which works well for treating mild to moderate cases of dry skin and cracked heels. To determine the right concentration of coarse salt, experiment with table salt by mixing small amounts of coarse sea salt with regular table salt. The mineral content will vary depending on the grain size of the product. Very coarse grains will produce very little mineral content while fine grains will produce a noticeable difference in mineral content.

Smaller grains are often used as facial masks to add moisture and provide an exfoliating effect. Larger grains are often used for wounds or other abrasive contact points. Soaking in the bath tub under warm water is an easy and effective way to soothe sore muscles and ease minor aches and pains for the entire body.
